SINGAPORE; 16 JANUARY, 2025 — Caldecott Music Group (CMG), a leading Singapore-headquartered music industry operator, innovator and investor, today announces two key divisional appointments that reinforce its commitment to empowering music creators worldwide. Long-serving leader, David Nam Le, has been promoted to Managing Director of Vista Musical Instruments, and music industry veteran, Jon Bahr, joins BandLab Technologies as Senior Advisor, Artist & Label Services.
Le has been named Managing Director of Vista Musical Instruments, continuing to report to Group CEO, Meng Ru Kuok, as he did in his previous role as General Manager. Le began his career at Swee Lee when Kuok first took ownership and rose through roles in category management, buying, and product development. He was instrumental in the successful relaunch of legendary guitar brand Harmony and also played a key role in the acquisition and integration of MONO and Heritage Guitars. Having overseen retail, distribution, and manufacturing at Vista Musical Instruments, Le will now collaborate on higher-level strategy and cross-group initiatives.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead and work alongside our dedicated teams at Vista Musical Instruments,” says Le. “We’ve crossed so many milestones in the last ten years, but there is still so much more to come from our brands and products, and I’m eager to do even more to drive meaningful impact across the division, group and the wider music industry.”
Also reporting directly to Kuok, Bahr joins BandLab Technologies to guide the company’s expanding suite of artist service offerings, which include licensing, distribution, publishing, and broader industry partnerships. He brings extensive experience from Downtown Music Holdings, where he served as Vice President of Business Development & Strategy and cultivated opportunities across operating companies such as CD Baby and FUGA. HAMAMATSU and SANTA MONICA, June 24, 2024 — More than fifty prominent music companies, associations, and institutions globally have added their support to the "Principles for Music Creation with AI." Introduced by Roland Corporation and Universal Music Group (UMG) in March, these Principles are a series of clarifying statements relating to the responsible use of AI in music creation, aiming to protect the essence of music—its human spirit.
Among the organizations endorsing the Principles are NAMM, Sydney University, BandLab Technologies, Splice, Native Instruments, Focusrite, Output, Beatport, Waves, Soundful, LANDR, Eventide, GPU Audio, and many more.
This is a major milestone—a shared philosophy around the application of AI in music creation. This coalition of music industry leadership is committed to adhering to ethical industry standards that protect human creativity, while also exploring innovative ways for AI to empower and support artists. Their alignment around the “Principles For Music Creation with AI” underscores a desire for transparency, equity, and proactive leadership in order to protect music creatives around the world.
As we usher in a new era of music creation, the emergence of AI-powered tools offers exciting opportunities but also presents significant risks. Therefore, a critical need to manage their impact responsibly is required. “The Principles For Music Creation With AI” were developed to address these challenges, establishing clear guidelines that emphasize the need for strong internal governance and broad industry support. By adhering to these Principles, the music industry can protect artistic integrity while harnessing AI’s transformative potential.
To promote greater adoption within the music industry, Roland, UMG, and other members strongly encourage additional organizations across the globe—including manufacturers, educators, associations, labels, and others—to officially endorse these Principles. The potential impact of alignment among music industry leaders cannot be understated and plays an invaluable role in shaping a responsible future for AI in music creation.
BandLab Technologies CEO and Co-Founder Meng Ru Kuok said, "We are at a pivotal moment in the evolution of music creation. As leaders, it is our responsibility to thoughtfully ensure that AI supports artists and respects their creative integrity. As we develop new tools, we must remember that technology is at its best when it enhances, not overshadows, human creativity."
Splice CEO Kakul Srivastava said, “AI brings new opportunities to our industry and many musicians are being inspired by these tools. But this is a critical time to support responsibility around new technology and respect for the rights of creators everywhere. This is about the human at the center.”
“As with all technologies, the Focusrite Group desires to see AI become another toolset to further the creativity of artists vs. a threat to our industry,” said Focusrite PLC CEO Tim Carroll. “We are proud to support AI For Music and to do our part to help ensure this technology is used in a responsible manner.”
Gil Weinberg, Georgia Tech’s Founding Director of the Center for Music Technology, added, "I support the AI for Music Initiative where academia and industry could collaborate to create ways for AI to continue supporting human creativity, expression, and artistry.”
“For 124 years, NAMM has emphasized the importance of our industry working collectively to embrace new technologies,” said NAMM President and CEO John Mlynczak. “With AI being the newest technology in a long history of innovations and potential threats, we must work together to embrace principles that support human artistic expression, promote ethically trained technology, and ensure that new technologies and tools are used to strengthen our industry."
“It’s great to see the music industry recognizing the need for an urgent response to the risks Generative AI poses toward human creativity,” said Paul McCabe, VP of R&D and Strategic Partnerships at Roland. “The Principles are proving to be a timely solution for a wide spectrum of music organizations, some with robust AI strategies already in place, and many more in various stages of discovery.”
Chris Horton, SVP, Strategic Technology at UMG, said, “We are pleased to see the growing list of Principle supporters from across the ecosystem of tools, services, educators, and services addressing the needs and interests of current and future artists. The scope of support reflected by all of these participating organizations clearly indicates emerging consensus about the importance of strongly advocating a thoughtful approach to AI adoption.”
The core “Principles for Music Creation with AI” are as follows:
We believe music is central to humanity.
We believe humanity and music are inseparable.
We believe that technology has long supported human artistic expression, and applied sustainably, AI will amplify human creativity.
We believe that human-created works must be respected and protected.
We believe that transparency is essential to responsible and trustworthy AI.
We believe the perspectives of music artists, songwriters, and other creators must be sought after and respected.
We are proud to help bring music to life.

SINGAPORE; MONDAY, 2 OCTOBER 2023 — BandLab, the world’s largest social music creation platform, is proud to announce exciting new integrations with Airbit, a leading global beat marketplace, that enables Airbit users to seamlessly share their beats to BandLab’s worldwide audience of creators. With a unified commitment to amplifying the reach and potential of music creators, this collaboration not only enhances the connection between beat creation, sharing, and promotion but also bridges the gap between sellers and buyers.
Rolling out today, users can embed their beats directly in BandLab posts from Airbit. This integration lets Airbit creators amplify their beats to a broader audience and also benefit from using BandLab Boost to promote their posts to trending feeds. With Airbit embeds on BandLab, producers can effortlessly share their beats with a broader audience, tapping into BandLab’s vast community of over 60 million creators.
Beyond native embeds on BandLab, producers on Airbit will also have the ability to natively “Share to BandLab” any beat on Airbit’s catalog of over 1 million beats available to license or purchase. Once clicked, BandLab will open with the beat already embedded in a new post, making the process even more seamless for producers looking to promote their creations. Native embeds will only be available on web upon initial release, with mobile compatibility to come in future releases.
This integration builds upon Airbit’s recent announcements of eliminating platform Marketplace commissions, enhancing its free Basic plan, and the ability for users to register with and log into Airbit using their BandLab account, similar to how one would sign in with other third-party platforms.
BandLab Technologies acquired Airbit earlier this year, a union that was followed by a successful $25M Series B1 funding round that elevated the company's valuation to $425M post-money.
"Our goal has always been to empower creators by providing tools to amplify their voice and vision,” says Meng Ru Kuok, CEO & Co-founder of BandLab Technologies. “This is just another step in bringing Airbit's expansive beat marketplace to BandLab's passionate community and a testament to our dedication to creating a seamless and rich ecosystem for creators worldwide."

SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE; 20 SEPTEMBER 2023 — Airbit (airbit.com), a leading global beat marketplace, is announcing transformative changes to simplify online beat selling for music producers and creators: the elimination of platform Marketplace commissions and enriched features in the free Basic plan, both designed to supercharge Airbit’s leading set of selling tools and ensure more profits are directly channeled to artists. Separately, Airbit is also excited to announce integrations with BandLab, the world’s largest social music creation platform, allowing producers to reach an even wider audience of creators.
To date, creators around the world have earned over $50M+ on Airbit, with over 2M+ beats sold. With a catalog of more than a million beats from notable and emerging producers from around the world, Airbit has always been committed to empowering creators by providing them with everything they need to advance their artistic freedom and success in today’s competitive music industry. This mission was further strengthened through its acquisition by BandLab Technologies earlier this year.
Reinforcing its creator-first approach, Airbit has now eliminated all seller commission fees from up to 40% to 0% across its Marketplace (less payment provider transaction fees). This, in addition to already having 0% buyer service fees across the platform, ensures that producers retain even more of their hard-earned sales on the Airbit Marketplace.
Airbit also recently expanded payment options in its Marketplace, including credit cards via Stripe. Combined with additional recent improvements to streamlined payouts, these updates are designed to elevate sales opportunities for sellers and deliver convenience and affordability for buyers.
The company's free Basic tier now offers three additional benefits: the ability to upload up to 20 beats to a Marketplace profile (doubling the previous limit of 10), the ability to automatically post beat videos to socials, and the ability to unlock free downloads through social engagement. With these updates, Airbit boasts the richest free package of any beat marketplace platform, underscoring its support to providing an unparalleled experience at every tier.
Additionally, Airbit is introducing integrations for BandLab’s audience of over 60+ million users around the world. Creators can now register with and log into Airbit using their BandLab account, similar to how one would sign in with other third-party platforms. "By removing marketplace commissions, we are providing tools for producers and creators to focus on what truly matters – reaching their audience and delivering exceptional music.”
"In today's dynamic digital landscape, we firmly believe that creators and rights holders should be able to diversify their presence across multiple platforms to truly harness their revenue potential,” says BandLab Technologies CEO & Co-founder, Meng Ru Kuok. “This is just the beginning – we're excited to roll out additional features in the upcoming months to ensure our community of creators is poised for unprecedented growth and success."

Social music creation platform BandLab has partnered with NME to launch BandLab and NME present: Get Featured, a huge new music initiative for rising artists across the globe
This exclusive opportunity will give emerging and independent singer-songwriters, rappers, producers and bands alike a platform to get heard by NME’s global audience of music fans, and expand both their networks and online presence.
NME’s Radar section was born out of the spirit of discovery, and in collaboration with BandLab, this feature will continue a shared mission to empower new, underground artists ready to make a name for themselves by pushing them into the mainstream.
Artists of all genres are being encouraged to upload their own original music via BandLab Opportunities from today (November 8), and the submission period will run until December 31. NME Radar’s editorial team will review all entries, before four winners will be chosen.
The winners will receive a unique package of opportunities from NME to continue their development as an artist. This will include a BandLab-supported publication feature and accompanying photoshoot, placement on NME’s New Bangers Spotify Playlist for four weeks, inclusion in the NME newsletter, and extensive support across NME’s social media channels.
This is an ongoing opportunity that will see NME spotlight a total of four creators throughout 2023, and will also encourage artists to also submit their music directly for festival bookings, film and TV sync opportunities, and brand deals.
Since it was established in 2015, BandLab has supported and uplifted emerging musicians through its free-to-use DAW software and social network. They have continued to offer a whole host of features and tools for over 50 million creators to stay the course of their artistic path, connect with fans, and grow their audience.
With BandLab Opportunities, artists may get a chance to play at festivals, get their music heard by A&R at indie and major labels, get featured on some of the world’s best music publications, and much more.. To get started, artists simply pick an opportunity that they are interested in and submit their music or EPK on BandLab’s Opportunity page.
BandLab creators have the potential to reach millions of users within the BandLab network through a new feature, Boost. With Boost, users can now take their profiles and posts and turn them into featured ads in prominent spots on BandLab, to get in front of more artists and fans on a daily basis.
Boost is another avenue of discovery and promotion through the BandLab platform, similar to campaigns an artist may buy on a social platform like Instagram or Facebook. As the world’s leading social music creation platform, BandLab encourages networking and sharing within their rapidly expanding community of music creators and music lovers, all excited and open to discovering new music and artists.
Boost is available in two forms - Boost Post, a la carte for boosting posts, and Boost Membership, for always-on profile boosting. With Boost Membership now comes access to BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation, an opportunity for creators to submit their music directly to key industry heavyweights, including editorial opportunities with Billboard and The FADER, partnerships with MONO, live music events such as SummerFest, and more.
Boost Post allows a creator to boost a single post to gain more likes, plays, and interactions, without a membership. The creator can pick their budget and length in days their boost will be active, and proceed with a one-time payment to get their campaign live.
Creators will also receive analytics tools throughout their campaign with Boost Insights, where they can analyze performance by monitoring engagement and impression metrics. Boost Membership costs $14.99 USD a month, available to all worldwide users. Creators can also subscribe annually at a discounted rate, $149.99 USD. Boost Post campaigns start at $1 a day.
“We’ve seen some exciting developments in the BandLab community. From independent artist Duncan Daniels’ feature in The FADER as part of BandLab Opportunities, to BandLab user d4vd’s single hitting the charts on Billboard’s Hot 100 and recent signing to Darkroom/Interscope Records,” says BandLab Co-Founder and CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “We’re devoted to continuous artist growth and development through BandLab, however the artist imagines their journey.”
Boost is currently rolling out worldwide for both mobile and web platforms.
All artists have the opportunity to apply for an exciting editorial feature to appear in Billboard, written by one of Billboard’s own music journalists. Interested artists can find this, and many other opportunities, on BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation.
Social music creation platform BandLab introduced BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation last month, and is now collaborating with global music media brand Billboard on a unique feature story opportunity. Billboard will select one talented artist to be interviewed by one of their trusted music industry journalists. The feature will then be promoted through Billboard’s Facebook and Twitter channels.
Artists can apply for the ‘Bringing BandLab to Billboard’ opportunity until September 30th, through BandLab’s platform. Any artist or creator can apply for this feature; they do not need to be a current or longtime user of the BandLab platform to be considered.
Bridging connections for talented emerging and underrepresented artists, BandLab has partnered with industry powerhouses to help artists get their foot in the door, including venue and festival bookings, film and TV syncs, brand programs, and exposure to record labels.
“Billboard and BandLab both value discovering and celebrating new talent,” said Dana Droppo, Chief Brand Officer, Billboard. “BandLab’s Opportunities platform gives musicians direct access to resources and breakthroughs to help them reach a wider audience of music fans. Through this platform we feel we are giving more artists the chance to be discovered.”
Billboard has interviewed some of the biggest names in music, including Olivia Rodrigo, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Rascal Flatts, Sam Smith, DaBaby, and many more. They also regularly feature indie voices, with both the Emerging Artist Spotlight and Must-Hear Indie Artist of the Month series. With unrivaled reporting on music news, issues, and trends, and production of the highly-respected industry charts, Billboard is the leading voice of authority for the music industry.
“We are just thrilled about this collaboration with Billboard, and their excitement about amplifying emerging and underrepresented artists with their brand,” says BandLab CEO & Co-Founder Meng Ru Kuok. “Artists receive something truly powerful through these connections, the chance to be seen in a prominent music publication. They can look back on this feature for decades to come.”
The ‘Bringing BandLab To Billboard’ portal is now open for submissions, which will close September 30, 2022. The first artist feature will be published by October 15, 2022.

SINGAPORE (July 25, 2022) – Artists will connect with various industry powerhouses through BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation, expanding their music industry connections by applying for unique opportunities to get their foot in the door.
Forward-thinking social music creation platform BandLab is partnering with The FADER to give a fresh platform to emerging artists. Starting this summer and running through the end of 2023, The FADER will select one artist each quarter from BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation service for editorial coverage. Each artist will be interviewed by one of The FADER’s award-winning editorial staff and captured by a leading photographer in a custom shoot.
The feature will be posted on TheFADER.com’s homepage for 24 hours and will be pushed far and wide on The FADER’s social media, as well as appearing in The FADER’s daily newsletter.
US-born Nigerian afropop and afrobeat musician Duncan Daniels has been chosen by BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation and The FADER to receive editorial coverage. The feature will be published today, July 29, 2022.
“The FADER has been built on helping to expose the best of emerging music and tell the stories of who is next in music. No platform offers the tools, community and opportunity for young artists the way BandLab does. We are excited to partner with BandLab and help to amplify and bring more attention to the great music being made through their platform,“ says co-CEO of The FADER Jon Cohen.
This partnership with The FADER is the first iteration of new BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation. In addition to the chance for editorial coverage, BandLab artists can submit their music directly to other industry decision makers for consideration including venue and festival bookings, film and TV syncs, brand programs, and exposure to record labels.
“We are pleased to partner with industry-respected music platform The FADER to bring editorial coverage to artists selected through BandLab Opportunities via ReverbNation. Some of the leading names in music have been featured in their magazine, and we’re excited to see what this opportunity offers BandLab artists in their journey,” says CEO & Co-Founder of BandLab Meng Ru Kuok.

Singapore-based social music creation platform BandLab has seen fast-moving growth over the past few years, supercharged by the excitement from musicians and creators, investors, and the development team at BandLab – and with good reason.
Since the announcement of 30M BandLab users in March 2021, BandLab has continued its upward trajectory, today announcing a milestone of 50M users on the platform, creating, collaborating, sharing, and listening to music from other creators.
As BandLab celebrates their growth, they also want to acknowledge and help grow creators as they take the next step in sharing their music and acquiring necessary resources to further themselves and their music as a business in the form of a new initiative, Creator Grant. This grant will total $60K USD, and will be awarded to select individuals on BandLab, who have shown great growth and resourcefulness in their efforts to reach new musical heights.
“Our goal with Creator Grant is to support and further creator development by giving funds for them to invest in their own creative process,” says BandLab CEO & Co-founder, Meng Ru Kuok. “We see this potentially funding production equipment or a new instrument, social ads or a marketing campaign. There’s absolutely no obligation from BandLab as to content ownership, we are just truly here to support the creator in their journey.”
BandLab’s Creator Grant will kick off its inaugural year with 5 creators. Recipients include 14-year-old viral TikTok rapper Cl4pers, one of the most forked creators on the BandLab platform, producer MJbeats, Tracklanta winners Ilene and TWIN, and the YouTube content creator behind BandLab rapper reactions KngWilo.
BandLab services artists through every stage of their creative journey with tools designed specifically to aid pain points: from song inspiration guided by AI-powered SongStarter to end-to-end capture and mixing through BandLab’s own DAW, Mix Editor. As an end-to-end resource for the DIY musician, creators come to BandLab for high quality music tools, but also to connect and collaborate with others from all around the world.
“We set out to democratize music creation and give people with interest in creating music the opportunity to do so and to thrive while doing it,” says Kuok. “We feel we’re still just getting started, but are extremely proud of having brought 50M people together to enjoy the music making process."
From BandLab’s recent acquisition of artist-growth tool ReverbNation come two well-loved and well-established resources for creators designed to aid in expanding their audiences and making money, with Zire, and making better music by tapping into their fanbase for constructive feedback ahead of a release, with Crowd Review. Zire and Crowd Review come onto BandLab as essential artist services, continuing efforts to make music creation accessible to all, now integrated into the BandLab platform and available for creator use.
Zire puts music promotion on autopilot, so creators need not worry about complex ad buys and visual creation maintaining a cohesiveness with their brand. With automated ad design, minimal effort is needed from the creator. It’s as simple as uploading high-resolution album artwork and selecting a 30-second song preview.
For those creators thinking about releasing a new song, Crowd Review allows them to test how their song will perform after release, with this centralized and hyper-targeted method for collecting useful feedback. By hitting the “Get Reviews” button, a song is then shared with a select group of targeted listeners, giving listeners a forum to provide constructive feedback directly back to the creator.
Both Zire and Crowd Review also bring new levels of insight to creators, sharing intricate details about who is listening to their music – everything from audience demographics to user impressions, production quality, analysis of song structure, and likelihood of fans to purchase music.
“We see a world with no barriers to making and sharing music,” says BandLab co-founder and CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “The addition of Zire and Crowd Review to the BandLab platform encompasses this, creating a space for support and collaboration through every step of the maturing artist’s journey. By continuing to expand the artist services offered here at BandLab, we are building a more complete musical ecosystem.”

Writing the very first note of a song can be surprisingly difficult. New creators may not know where to start. Inspiration can be tough to come by, even for seasoned creators. Other times, pinning down one of a million ideas can be overwhelming. For creatives who are eager to get started but need help getting past the blank screen, the team at BandLab is introducing SongStarter, a musical idea generator powered by artificial intelligence within the BandLab platform.
Built in collaboration with Google on TensorFlow, SongStarter generates unique beats, melodies, and chord progressions based on user input. The patterns it creates are for users to keep, royalty-free, and can be used as a starting point for rapping, songwriting, melody sketching, or just jamming out with friends. SongStarter is now available through desktop browsers and the BandLab mobile app.
To get started, BandLab users simply click on the dice icon through the SongStarter interface. For more customized results, users have the option to enter up to 50 characters’ worth of lyrics and emojis. However, no initial input is required. Within a matter of seconds, SongStarter will generate three new musical ideas, each completely different from the last.
Once the ideas are presented, users can test out different moods for each one by clicking a button with day, dusk, and night icons. This feature provides takes on various instrumentals, keys, and beats-per-minute for the same musical composition, allowing users to select the style that suits them best. Finally, users can open up the chosen idea in the Mix Editor of the BandLab platform and tweak it further, or repeat the same phrasing. Alternatively, they can keep rolling the SongStarter dice until they land on the results they want.
SongStarter marks the start of BandLab’s foray into AI-powered tools to help creators progress in their music-making journeys. Additionally, in alignment with BandLab’s mission of breaking barriers to music creation, SongStarter is free and easy to use. Once users have the foundation of a song, they can continue to personalize their work and share with the ever-growing BandLab community, which now features over 40 million users – ranging from first-time creators to GRAMMY-winning producers.
“We are thrilled to launch SongStarter. It is like having inspiration on-demand,” notes BandLab CEO & Co-Founder Meng Ru Kuok. “Our team designed just the solution for those personal ‘eureka’ moments. SongStarter is fun to experiment with and serves as a resource that creators can keep coming back to again and again. The musical possibilities are endless.”

BandLab is the flagship product of BandLab Technologies, which also includes professional-level digital audio workstation, Cakewalk.
With a history of growing a broad range of music-focused businesses, BandLab Technologies announces an organisational transformation with the introduction of new company brand, Caldecott Music Group (CMG). CMG will oversee the long-term planning, investment, and development of three newly-formed divisions: BandLab Technologies, Vista Musical Instruments, and NME Networks.
Digital division BandLab Technologies will double down on designing and developing innovative tools and services for the next generation of music creators, with a vision for a future where there are no boundaries to making and sharing music. The group unites digital audio workstation Cakewalk, and flagship social music creation platform BandLab, which hosts a user base of 40 million creators globally and the recently announced acquisition of artist services platform ReverbNation.
Manufacturing and retail division Vista Musical Instruments groups musical instrument brands MONO, Harmony, Heritage Guitars, Teisco, and omni-channel, multi-brand retailer, Swee Lee. With a purpose to inspire and enable musical expression, the formation of Vista Musical Instruments will combine decades of global supply chain knowledge and experience in the music industry, from product design and marketing to e-commerce and distribution.
Media division NME Networks, announced earlier in the month, unites the group’s journalism titles to inform musically-curious audiences, from those researching their first guitar via Guitar.com and discovering new artists and pop culture news through NME, to those staying updated on creator tools and technologies with MusicTech and unpacking decades of rock history in Uncut. NME Networks also facilitates consumer events such as Guitar.com Live and the NME Awards shows, the latter of which will return to London on March 2, 2022 to celebrate music and entertainment from around the globe.
The formation of Caldecott Music Group and organisation of three distinct divisions enables the organisation to more effectively support growth and increase value for their people, partners, brands, and stakeholders. The group fosters competitive sector-specific strategies, systems, and policies whilst still connecting the dots between the divisions for artists and partners.
“From our unique vantage point here in Singapore, our brands have seen massive growth globally in terms of community, traffic, and sales across the board. I truly could not be prouder of our team,” says Meng Ru Kuok, Group CEO & Founder of Caldecott Music Group. “Now is the time to build on the foundation we have formed for over nearly a decade.” Appointments within the newly-formed Caldecott Music Group include: Ivan Chen as Group Chief Operating Officer, Grace Chong as Group Chief Financial Officer, Krystle Hall as Group Chief Brand Officer, and Laurent Le Graverend as Group Chief Technology Officer.
“I cannot wait to watch as our people and brands flourish within this new structure, supporting and fueling creativity to uphold our singular vision of connecting the world of music and providing more opportunities for creators, fans, and the music industry at large,” Kuok notes. “The best part is that we're still just getting started.”
The group operates throughout the USA, UK, and APAC and is hiring aggressively across the organisation to bolster resources in response to the transformation.

We have a clear vision of the role BandLab plays in supporting creators worldwide, today, and into the future. Artist services are a key part of that plan, as evidenced by our recently announced subscriptions and distribution offerings. This acquisition allows us to accelerate BandLab’s product roadmap and further enable us to break down technical, geographic, and creative barriers facing musicians and fans.
We’ve known ReverbNation for a long time and had great respect for its ability to build a terrific artist services business. There are more exciting announcements to come, but what ReverbNation brings to BandLab seamlessly fits with our vision - a future where there are no boundaries to making and sharing music.”
CEO of eMinor, Inc., Mike Doernberg says, “When BandLab approached us with their thesis for integrating ReverbNation and BandLab, it made complete sense, especially for our artists. BandLab is a natural fit. ReverbNation has long been the standard for artist promotion and growth tools. Since its evolution from a startup in 2006 to a mature, profitable business today, it has continually innovated.
We have known and admired the management team at BandLab for some time and are excited about this extraordinary offering that will serve music makers in new and powerful ways.”
No other details of the deal have been released. More information will be shared about product roadmap and future features in due course.

About BandLab
BandLab’s vision is simple: A future where there are no boundaries to making and sharing music.
Founded in 2015, BandLab is the next-generation social music creation platform on a mission to break down the technical, geographic, and creative barriers for musicians and fans. Free-to-use, the mobile-first cross-platform DAW and social network, unites the entire creator journey into one place, boasting a suite of features and tools for creators to make and share their music with fans.
To find out why 40 million creators love and use BandLab, visit bandlab.com or sign up for free on the App Store or Google Play.
The full-stack social music creation platform adds new monetization features to help artists build a sustainable life in music, backed by leading B2B services
BandLab put the power of a full-on recording studio onto phones worldwide, and now it’s bringing creators’ work to music fans everywhere, giving artists the means to earn more from their music and fan engagement. The social music creation platform is rolling out a set of services for key creators, eventually extending them to its 40 million users: BandLab Subscriptions, which will allow fans to gain access to exclusive tracks, videos, and posts from their favorite music makers, and BandLab Distribution, which will allow creators to distribute their tracks to leading music services worldwide.
“We want to help artists monetize more. We're creating a regular income stream, recurring revenue that can help them build a living based on their music,” explains Meng Ru Kuok, BandLab CEO. “We already offered creators a Tip Jar feature, to let fans reward creators they loved, and Albums, which let artists sell tracks directly to their fans, but these are one-time opportunities. Now we're building out a sustainable way to guarantee regular revenue streams and thus support a stronger creator economy.”
Subscriptions will allow artists to offer exclusive material, such as posts, videos, and audio tracks, to fans in return for a monthly fee. Once they select their subscription price from an available range, artists can decide what to offer their fanbase and they’ll receive regular monthly payouts from BandLab, which allows artists to keep 100% of the subscription fee. This feature is currently entering early access, with a list of BandLab artists offering Subscriptions to kick off the launch. Interested BandLab users can sign up, with plans to expand in the coming months.
With BandLab Distribution, artists will now also be able to use BandLab to distribute the music they make on and off-platform directly to every major music platform like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok, Tidal, Deezer, Pandora, and more, thanks to a partnership with leading music service provider Revelator. After an initial early access period, the service will open up to the BandLab community, bringing accessible, affordable distribution plans to independent artists worldwide via both desktop and mobile. Though music pros use the platform, BandLab is also home to millions of the world’s underserved mobile-first music makers, creators whose work will likely be reaching global services for the first time.
“Many of the services we provide are offered a la carte by different platforms, with cost-prohibitive fees or big revenue shares. Our vision is to unite the entire creator journey in one place, from making a track to finding the people it resonates with, and finally to taking it out into the world, which will allow many creators to begin to earn a living for the first time,” says Kuok. “We want creators to have one place they can go to make music, with professional-quality tools and services, but at a price point and with terms that reflect our truly international user base.”

Following their largest feature expansion to date, social music creation app BandLab is releasing a new sound pack by Platinum producer Lex Luger, who has produced tracks for Jay Z, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and more. The new hip hop mix features Constructor kits, 808, keys, pads, and percussion through the BandLab Sounds library.
“I’m basically taking sounds that I have used in the past. I tweak and stack them, record sounds like water dripping and other stuff outside, then put it into the drum and use crazy plugins to make them sound insane, but still have that trap sound,” Luger explains. “This style is still thriving like it was in 2011, 2010, or even earlier. It's really dope. I love it. That's what inspired me to make this kit.”
When Luger started out with music production, he did not use an elaborate studio. Rather, he practiced sampling with a PlayStation game. “You’d take the game out of the disk drive, put a music CD in there, sample whatever six seconds you wanted, take that out, put the game back, and get busy,” Luger reflects. “I would sample drums. I really loved Pharrell and Snoop Dogg.” Luger found the ways in which lyrics could be combined with artful sounds to be especially compelling.
The new sound pack from Lex Luger is completely free to use through the BandLab app. Along with other sound pack offerings, it is distribution-ready and royalty-free for personal or commercial use. BandLab 10.0 allows creators to pick from over 15,000 sounds in the BandLab Sounds library, which features packs, loops, and samples curated by genre and style.
For the BandLab team, the app’s purpose is not only to provide access to high-quality music creation tools; it is also to help users level up their professional production skills, collaborate with other talented artists, grow their fanbases, and generate income. The vision is shared by contributing creatives, from top producers such as Lex Luger to GRAMMY-winning engineers who guided BandLab 10.0’s automated Mastering feature.
“Our mission to break down technical, geographic, and creative barriers in the worldwide music community resonates with many professionals,” says BandLab CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “Just as Lex Luger’s musical roots show, you don’t need to spend thousands on equipment. With the right tools, inspiration, and a supportive community, artists everywhere can flourish.”

The platform now has nearly 40 million registered users worldwide. The BandLab Technologies portfolio of music experience brands also includes Cakewalk by BandLab, a professional-level digital recording studio for career musicians and producers.
BandLab has taken a leap forward in its ongoing mission to create a well-equipped studio that anyone can use on any device, anywhere in the world. Its latest update (BandLab 10.0) adds a full-blown sampler to its Mix Editor; serious upgrades to its Mastering function that puts the finishing touch on files at lightning speed; and includes streamlined uploads to key platforms like TikTok, dark mode, and new social features.
“This is a major milestone release. We envision BandLab evolving beyond helping creators make music, to helping them earn a living and grow their audience,” says BandLab CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “We are the best cross-platform, accessible place to make music, and we want to keep pushing the boundaries of music creation to the next level. The new sampler and other functions, the new look and social features, are designed to take their creativity to another place. It's part of what we see as a continuing investment in the broader music creation ecosystem.”
BandLab’s new Sampler allows creators to make their own samples from sounds around them, import up to a minute of audio or video from their files, or pick from over 15,000 sounds in BandLab Sounds’ royalty-free sample library that’s curated by genre and style. Making beats from your own samples requires just a few taps, and customizing parameters like attack and release takes mere seconds on the go.
Guided by GRAMMY- and other award-winning mastering engineers, BandLab’s free automated Mastering has been updated to render tracks 10x as fast as the closest competitor, allowing anyone who’s excited about a track’s final version to add instant polish. It takes a large step toward democratizing professional-grade audio, even for users making music on smartphones and tablets. “With millions of tracks being mastered per year, Mastering is a serious product feature for us, not an afterthought,” says Kuok. “We wanted to push it to the same standard of excellence as the rest of our tools.”
In addition to expanding its tools, BandLab’s upgrades will also unlock new social and visual features for users, including direct upload of sounds to TikTok, a long-awaited update for BandLab’s 37 million+ users worldwide. Some of the tweaks are small, but requested by the BandLab community, like dark mode and a redesign of profile pages. “Our aim reaches beyond making cool tools. We’re more ambitious than that. We want to empower a community by giving artists everything they need to present their creative process to their fans and fellow creators,” Kuok notes. “Without social features, emerging creators from overlooked markets won’t flourish. Our ultimate goal is to help them thrive.”
About BandLab
Founded in 2016, BandLab is part of music technology group BandLab Technologies, and is the flagship digital product in the organisation’s portfolio of music experience brands.
BandLab’s best-in-class mobile music creation tools and audio hardware empower creators everywhere to make music and share their creative process at an unprecedented level. Free to join, BandLab’s approachable software is based in the cloud, making it the most accessible, collaboration-friendly music production platform anywhere. Users can self-release tracks and retain complete control of their music rights, giving artists full autonomy and allowing them to keep 100% of their earnings from monetizing their music. It reported its first million users in April 2017 and now has over 37 million registered users world wide.
The BandLab product family also includes BandLab for Education, an award-winning music creation platform with classroom management tools used by schools in over 40 countries worldwide, and Cakewalk by BandLab, a professional-level digital recording studio for career musicians and producers.
BandLab’s AudioStretch app has hit the top of the Apple App Store charts for paid music apps in the US and UK. Though the app had been in stores for several years, it saw a massive spike in downloads recently, more than 20-30 times what the app experienced previously. As of early June, downloads were up 420% month over month.
Why? One word: TikTok.
AudioStretch slows down audio without changing the pitch. It was designed to make it easier for musicians to master that lightning-fast solo or find the right register for their voices. Users can listen note by note, or loop sections they need to hear over and over. It’s been championed by musicians like Jordan Rudess of progressive metal band Dream Theater, who was voted “Best Keyboardist in the World” for his intricate work.
Yet AudioStretch also lets you manipulate audio and video files, changing the speed and making some seriously quirky manipulations. TikTok creators discovered this feature and ran with it, racking up more than 7.3 million views for their videos. (See a sample of these videos here.)
“We brought AudioStretch into the BandLab family several years ago because its time stretching and pitch-scaling technology was so good,” explains BandLab CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “Great musicians used and highlighted it, but we never imagined a whole new creator community would embrace it.”
Part of BandLab’s expanding creator tools, AudioStretch has been fully integrated into BandLab’s Mix Editor, giving BandLab users access to its features. Its recent renewed success shows how creator tools can morph in the hands of new users with different goals and ideas. “Our mission is to make music and audio creation tools available to as many people as possible who have something they want to create,” Kuok notes. “It’s always a thrill when you see a tool unlock new forms of artistic expression or entertainment, as we’ve recently seen with AudioStretch.”

BandLab, the mobile-first music creation and sharing platform, has caught up to GarageBand in mobile downloads, according to data from SensorTower. The app, available for Android and iOS, was installed more than 1.2 million times in March 2021 according to SensorTower, while GarageBand saw 1M installs.
“GarageBand set the standard for independent at-home recording, showing what home studios could produce,” notes BandLab CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “We have strived to take this process one step farther, breaking down barriers for even more potential music makers. BandLab has made the creation process even simpler and more streamlined, in ways that reflect how music is being made today. Our goal has always been to help creators with their journey, whether they are recording their first track or their thousandth, and then help them grow as musicians.”
Being neck and neck with the established player marks a natural evolution in music production tools, from feature-heavy DAWs based on analog studio consoles to more dynamic mobile-first playgrounds that unlock musical potential for a wider range of users. “We have an easy-to-use product that encompasses recording, mixing, mastering, and sharing tracks,” Kuok explains. “GarageBand is massive, incorporating numerous tools aimed at a variety of different types of users. But complex and technical doesn’t always mean better for all creators. Our focus is on user experience and creativity at its most elemental.”
That BandLab has lapped a long-standing leader in new downloads speaks to the app’s appeal, In some of the world’s largest markets (US, UK), as well as in markets where access to expensive hardware or phones may present challenges. Many iOS devices come with GarageBand pre-installed, so these numbers do not reflect total devices with GarageBand installed. However, a significant differentiator is that BandLab is available for Android devices, opening up mobile music creation and editing to billions of users who cannot access GarageBand on Android. In the US, BandLab’s biggest market, BandLab has outpaced GarageBand, even on its home turf, the App Store. And where Android dominates, such as the UK, India, and Philippines, so does BandLab.
BandLab differs from GarageBand and other DAWs on multiple fronts. It was built from the ground up with a new type of user in mind. BandLab works across devices, using real-time updates and version control like Google Docs instead of static files. Users can edit on one device, then switch to another. They can fork multiple versions, leaning into today’s predisposition for remixes, versions, and custom soundtracks. Users can also collaborate (and do it in real time on the web app version). All on the device already in your pocket or in a web browser on your desktop.
Additional features where BandLab outperforms traditional audio editing software include a tens of thousands of musician-created royalty-free beats, samples, and loops called BandLab Sounds; a newsfeed social experience for sharing tracks, finding new collaborators, and building your reputation and following; and easy-to-use vocal presets, special audio effects, and noise reduction.
“BandLab is growing swiftly. We’re reaching the next generation of musicians, the creators who may be experimenting today to create that next big hit tomorrow, and who create more than ten million new tracks a month on Bandlab,” says Kuok. “We’ve given them the high-quality but accessible tools and a community to practice and play around using whatever device they have already.”

BandLab, the mobile-first recording, editing, and sharing platform, has quietly but surely built a passionate, active user base. It now boasts more than 30 million users, a 150% jump since 2019. Today, these users create more than 10 million new tracks per month.
This proliferation of song making activity on a mobile app points to a larger shift worldwide: the line between music maker and music listener is fading, and a greater number of “upstream” creators are diving into production. Since the launch of major streaming services, music industry eyes have been focused on engaging a wider global music audience by optimizing a commercial model for digital music listening. The industry has paid little notice to how accessible music making has become, especially with the maturation of mobile composition and production. Music makers worldwide, however, have already embraced the innovation and started creating. Many had been shut out from existing music recording and production paradigms--until now.
“We’ve seen activity grow naturally,” says BandLab CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “Last year, it exploded and it hasn’t slowed down. Even as circumstances changed in places around the world, creativity has remained a part of people’s lives.”
BandLab lets music makers record, edit, and post tracks. Users can grab some of many free custom sound and sample sets to add or play with as they go, and they can apply any number of effects to their creations. Unique to BandLab is the ability for users to work seamlessly on any device, all synched via the cloud, and to invite others to collaborate in real time with them. They can then choose to make the results public and get feedback and support from fans and fellow creators.
“Big numbers on BandLab are great, but what’s really exciting is the active usage of the product. Music making means you need to be active, not just passively scrolling a feed,” Kuok explains. “The scale of the usage around the world shows the democratization of music creation. We sit so far upstream, as close as you can get to intent to action. That’s why our users trend young and relatively more gender balanced than audio sharing platforms and studio tech traditionally have been. It’s extremely inspiring.”
The new shift and interest in audio makes this wave of creativity all the more intriguing. “YouTube made everyone understand they needed to be a video creator,” muses Kuok. “As audio continues to evolve and grow in importance, everyone needs to become a music creator.”
About BandLab
Founded in 2016, BandLab is part of music technology group BandLab Technologies, and is the flagship digital product in the organisation’s portfolio of music experience brands. BandLab’s best-in-class mobile music creation tools empower aspiring and professional creators everywhere to make music and share their creative process at an unprecedented level.
Free to join, BandLab’s approachable software is based in the cloud and universally available on all platforms, making it the most accessible, collaboration-friendly music production platform anywhere. Users can self-release tracks and retain complete control of their music rights, giving artists full autonomy and allowing them to keep 100% of their earnings from monetizing their music. The BandLab product family also includes BandLab for Education, an award-winning music creation platform with classroom management tools used by schools in over 40 countries worldwide, and Cakewalk by BandLab, a professional-level digital recording studio for career musicians and producers. Millions of musicians worldwide—including GRAMMY® and Emmy®-winning producers, composers, sound designers, and engineers—use Cakewalk products daily to produce audio for the professional music, film, broadcast, and video game industries.
BandLab is the music creation platform you’d build if you were basing your fantasies not on the analog, brick-and-mortar studio, but on the quirky, post-UGC, post-Google Docs universe where everyone makes music from everywhere. With a vision to democratize music production and break down long-standing barriers, BandLab has the right intuitive feature set, guided by an awareness that making music is about more than tools; it’s about social co-creation and engagement.
The company has dreamed big enough to pull all the scattered pieces of music creation, collaboration, and sharing together, yet remains laser-focused on user experience and constant improvement, maintaining both a stellar app store rating and a near-weekly update schedule. The first truly cross-platform and device-agnostic music making space, BandLab is bringing music creation to the world’s often overlooked potential music makers, with tens of millions of users starting millions of projects a month. And it does so for free.
One of BandLab’s most distinctive features, a versioning system for music projects reminiscent of Google Docs meets GitHub, allows for active remote collaboration on tracks, a true game changer for users. In addition to this versioning, cross-platform DAW, other built-in services like BandLab Sounds offer unlimited access to a curated collection of thousands of royalty-free loops and samples created by professional musicians from around the world. The app also has built-in effects and filters that allow creators to design their own sounds. After creating a track, users can do a final mix, share it, get feedback, and continue playing with their song—or even open up their tracks to let other users get creative with them. Thanks to these features, BandLab has been embraced by fans-turned-creators and young emerging artists, as well as more seasoned musicians and producers.
This younger demographic sees music creation differently. The music industry has had separate lanes for creation and consumption, but BandLab blends the two, in the mold of UGC platforms like TikTok and Instagram. “Though the market is already there, there have been longstanding tech challenges for music creation to the masses on mobile,” says BandLab CEO Meng Ru Kuok. “To really create a seamless experience requires deep investment in music creation tech, which is why we went as far as to build our own proprietary audio engine in order to truly allow collaboration.”
Music creation has always had a deeply social side, but fluid yet flexible online collaboration and co-creation have become essential for younger music makers. In the digital-first world, creators need more than tools; they also need community. Kuok sees the potential to build social elements into the very first moments of music production as a necessity. As a young man in college, part of the very first wave of Facebook users, he saw firsthand the ability for social media to replace physical communities and formats with digital ones. The possibilities hinted at a new, highly creative future for music, where the categories of fan and musician merged.
“Music is inherently collaborative. MySpace died because of Facebook, but nothing rose to serve that music niche. Social networks inevitably became big, but they are generalized,” explains Kuok. “There’s a lot of focus on features and the inevitable cloning process of these features, but when feature parity has been achieved, what really differentiates platforms is its community of users and what they’re on the platform for. The whole journey we’ve had at BandLab has been about making a great creation product, but with a social heart to embrace that community.”
Music’s unique nature requires a dedicated approach, the BandLab team insists. It’s not an add on or a background feature; it’s the core of what’s drawing a massive community together. “Music is different, different from audio, different from short-form video. It has its own value, which is why we’re focused on music and all the things associated with it,” Kuok explains. “There’s a huge total addressable market of musicians and aspiring music makers that other apps and software haven’t bothered to reach and encourage. By giving them more tools and helping them make connections, you can bring real social impact and improve their lives.”
To engage the world’s underserved music makers, BandLab has kept its main features free, but features like BandLab Albums (launched late last year) have introduced monetization into the platform. “Independent musicians and creators are our core focus and our roadmap includes more monetization opportunities for artists to support their creative process,” says Kuok. “Though social impact is a core part of our mission--which is why we’ve been free for so long--we believe we have a key role to play in helping our users create sustainable business models for themselves. As BandLab ourselves, we’ve built our own business model and future monetization routes through ways that don’t create inequity for artists and that boost success for all.”
